Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment (endodontics) is a treatment that saves the tooth without extraction in cases where the nerve and vascular tissue (pulp) inside the tooth becomes inflamed or dead. When microbes reach the core of the tooth due to advanced decay, trauma or fracture, severe pain, hot and cold sensitivity and abscess may occur. In root canal treatment, the inflamed tissue is cleaned, the canals are disinfected and shaped, and filled with a special filling material. Thus, the tooth continues to function in the mouth. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is painless with modern techniques; In most cases, it is completed in a single session; in complex cases, two sessions may be required. Since teeth that have undergone root canal treatment can become brittle over time, it is recommended to strengthen them with a crown (veneer) after treatment, especially in the back teeth. In cases diagnosed early, the tooth can be used healthily for many years. 01 Is root canal treatment painful?

No. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is painless with modern techniques. On the contrary, root canal treatment eliminates existing tooth pain. There may be slight sensitivity for a few days after treatment, this is normal.

02 How many sessions does root canal treatment take?

Most cases are completed in a single session. In cases where the infection is advanced or the canal structure is complex, two sessions may be required. Each session takes approximately 30-60 minutes.

03 Is veneering necessary after root canal treatment?

It is especially recommended for back (chewing) teeth. A root canal-treated tooth may become brittle over time; Strengthening the tooth with a crown prolongs the life of the tooth and reduces the risk of fracture.

04 Wouldn't it be better if the tooth was extracted instead of root canal treatment?

No. Preserving the natural tooth is always the best option. An implant or bridge is required to replace the extracted tooth; With root canal treatment, you can continue to use your own tooth for years.

05 Will my tooth darken after root canal treatment?

In some cases, the root canal-treated tooth may become discolored over time. In this case, the natural color of the tooth is restored with intra-canal whitening or aesthetic coating.
